Celeste Fortes
Dr. Celeste Fortes holds a Ph.D. in Social and Cultural Anthropology, from the New University of Lisbon, Portugal. She is the Vice-President of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts at Universidade de Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) where she is also a researcher at the Gender and Family Research Center.
As a social and cultural Activist, Dr. Fortes focuses on promoting gender equality and equity. She has collaborated on several fronts for the democratization of national history and for the polyphony of female voices, starting with the creation and execution of academic research projects and artistic intervention. She has several scientific publications in national and international magazines, books and collections.
One of her many projects includes Memories For The Future: Projecting National Independence, In The Feminine, that gave birth to the documentary Canhão de Boca (Angelo Lopes, 2017), through which she collaborated as a researcher and the theater project Cartas, with her signature as a playwright. Dr. Fortes is the co-director of the documentary Bidon: Nação Ilhéu, the winning project of the DOC TV III contest of CPLP (Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries), 2018.
She currently lives in São Vicente, Cabo Verde.
