Poderoza Legacy Speaker | Miss Mongai Fankam
Mongai Fankam is an award-winning 17 year-old Cameroonian- American young lady who is an activist, motivational speaker, avid supporter for underprivileged children, and an entrepreneur. She is currently a high-school senior at Carolina International School. Mongai enjoys helping others. She spends most of her time finding ways to give back to her community whether it’s through her Non-profit organization No Backpack Day, empowering young girls, or through raising funds to provide meals for families who may be struggling during the current pandemic.
No Backpack Day is a day where Mongai challenges students to come to school without their backpacks to raise awareness for the children around the world who have to walk miles to school without a backpack. This initiative was launched in 2012 and since then Mongai has been able to collect more than 20,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. She has been able to donate these backpacks to children in Cameroon, Cape Verde, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Togo, Toronto, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Bernin and locally in North Carolina.
Mongai has met with some World-renowned leaders in line with her education advocacy work. She has had the opportunity to share the stage with several dignitaries such as, Dr. Joyce Banda former President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim former President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mrs. Leymah Gbowee 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mrs. Ligia Fonseca, First Lady of the Republic of Cape Verde, Mrs. Maureen Mwanasawa the former first lady of Zambia and many more...
Mongai recently re-launched her clothing line Moh-tivity fashion. Part of the proceeds from the T-Shirts sold are used to support No BackPack Day initiatives and other causes dear to her heart.
